In 2009, Richards founded A Raven Above Press with the release of his first book 'Simon Snootle and OTHER small stories.'

Richards believes heavily in the handmade process as he describes - "In my stories, I wanted to make sure I had a personal connection with how each book was created. The process I entail is in writing, illustrating, drafting, printing, sewing, binding, and pressing each by hand. This creates a slight imperfection that adds a sense of life to each one that would not otherwise be present in a mass produced book. My books are completely handmade!"
